Air pollution reached dangerous levels in the city on Tuesday. Due to very bad air, AQI reached 305 in Nehrunagar and surrounding localities. There was fog throughout the day. This day was counted as a bad day.

According to the records of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the days when AQI is more than 200 are considered as bad days. To measure the level of air pollution 24 hours online, CBCP installed air pollution measuring instruments in Nehrunagar (Brahmanagar), FTI Kidwainagar, IIT and NSI. Of these, the equipment installed in IIT is faulty, while regular monitoring is being done from the other three. On Tuesday, the AQI (air quality index) of Nehrunagar was 203 at 11:05 pm, which increased to 305 at 9:05 pm. During the same period, AQI in Kidwai Nagar increased from 171 to 224 and NSI increased from 208 to 250.

These are the reasons for increasing air pollution

Municipal sanitation workers sweeping the morning and burning garbage, dust flying in broken roads, dust flying due to metro construction work, dust flying in other construction sites, construction materials being taken in the open, smoke coming out of factories, vehicles. The smoke etc. is poisoning the air. There is a possibility of further increase in air pollution due to negligence of departments like Municipal Corporation, KDA, PWD, Police, RTO etc.

To control air pollution, water is being sprayed day and night with anti-smog guns and water sprinklers. Burning of garbage has been banned. If any employee is found burning garbage, action will be taken against him. – Sudhir Kumar, Municipal Commissioner
